Mr. Joe Chester Poole, age 84, of Uvalda, died, early Wednesday morning October 14, 2020 at Community Hospice of Vidalia after an extended illness. Joe was a native and lifelong resident of Uvalda.  After graduating high school, he played semi-pro baseball with the southeastern division conference.  He was employed in construction as a superintendent until his retirement. After retirement, he enjoyed growing scuppernongs and potatoes.  He also enjoyed listening to classic country music, old time gospel music and watching sports.  Joe was Methodist by faith and was President of the John Wesley Men’s Club.

Joe is preceded in death by his wife, Sadie Poole; parents, Chester and Penny Poole; one brother, Douglas Poole, and one sister, Betsy Joyce.

Joe is survived by one son, Anthony Chester (Karon) Poole of Uvalda; one sister, Mary Cason of Uvalda; five grandchildren, Amanda Poole (Travis) Blewett of Vidalia, Adam (Ana) Poole of Blackshear, Sandi (Blaine Lowe) Conner of Vidalia, Drew (Sunshine) Conner of Alston, and Derick (Becky) Conner of Ailey.  Nine Great-grandchildren also survive.

Graveside Services for Mr. Joe Chester Poole will be held Friday, October 16, 2020 at 3:00 pm at Dead River Cemetery with Pastor Shareon Womack officiating.  Interment will follow.

The family requests that anyone attending the service please wear a face mask.

Loved Mr. Joe .. we have had many of good times and ate a lot of meals together at our family gatherings (Marcus Durden's (my dad's)..... He was a great person and loved life ....not counting he grew a very good garden ..... Love You Mr. Joe and my boys loved you too ,,, Leslee was so close to him ..... as a dad to him .. Anthony he said he was so devastated to get this news ..he loved that MAN ... and he is so sorry for your loss

Joe was one of Marcus Durden's truest friends ,,, they set under the shade and worked together for many a years .. even went fishing, cain grindings and other fun stuff together ... Joe was like a brother ... the Uvalda community will miss him .. but we will get to enjoy each other again now .. we can walk the streets of gold together.. Sorry Anthony and family for your loss I posted this because my Dad (Marcus Durden) always said if I go first make sure Joe's family knew how much he meant to us ....
