Mr. John Wayne “Teddy Bear” Darden, age 56, of Lyons, died Thursday afternoon, September 17, 2020 in Navicent Hospital of Macon after an extended illness. He was a native of Toombs County and had resided in Statesboro and in Savannah for several years.  He was a taxicab driver and was a member of Edmund Chapel Church of God.

John Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, James Henry and Mary Julia Darden and one brother, Tony Darden.

John Wayne is survived by one brother, Malcolm Darden of Lyons, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Services for Mr. John Wayne "Teddy Bear" Darden will be held Thursday, September 24, 2020 at Ronnie L. Stewart Funeral Service Vidalia Chapel at 4:00 pm with Reverend Reece Mincey officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday afternoon from 2pm until 4pm.

Ronnie L. Stewart Funeral Service Vidalia Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

I remember John Wayne when we were kids. He loved playing at the ball field where the Boys and Girls Club is today. He was full of life and busy like young boys are at that age. I remember his blue eyes. I hope life was good to him. My thoughts are with his family.
