Mrs. Betty Sue Morris Wheeler, age 84, of Vidalia went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 24, 2019. Originally from Alston, she lived in Macon and Ludowici before moving to Vidalia in 1963 where she became a lifelong native of Toombs County.

Before marriage she worked at Warner Robins Air Force Base (AFB).  After marriage to her beloved husband, she devoted her life to being a fulltime mother to her six children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, along with being a “mom” to countless infants and children who experienced her endless love and attention.  She was a skilled seamstress and was also very talented with playing the piano.  She greatly enjoyed gospel music and was particularly fond of “The Journeymen Quartet”.   She was a member of Smith Street Baptist Church for over 50 years, actively working in the church nursey and participating in Crafters for Christ for many, many years.

Mrs. Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Wheeler Sr, with her going-home date coinciding with what would have been their 65th Wedding Anniversary.  She is also preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Willie Mae Morris, three brothers, Ray, Rex (Coot), and Earnest Morris, two sisters, Wilma (Mutt) Ussery, and Austine (Stine) Downie.

She is survived by one sister Sara Will (Nookie) Outler, three daughters Latrelle (Terry) Rogers, Faye (Ken) Mosley, Kaye Arnold, and three sons, Wayne, Buddy (Tina), and Al (Teresa) Wheeler.

She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Tiffany, Brittany, Ashley, Jason, Ambria, Walker, Landry, Walt, April, Rusty, Stephanie, Tyler and Miles, also 14 great grandchildren, Hannah-Kate, Jenna, Bekkah, Brynna, Gabriel Lillian, Aaron, Lexi, Karrie, Brody, Austin, Ella, Gracie, Claira, Palmer Kaye, and Davis.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Betty Sue Morris Wheeler will be held Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 2:00 PM Smith Street Baptist Church, with Rev Jeff McCormick and Rev Chester Proctor officiating.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 until the hour of the service. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

The family offers their sincere and heartfelt appreciation to the staff of The Oaks/Bethany, Meadows Park, Windows of Hope (Claxton) and Affinis Hospice, along with special caregivers Tori Glasper and Mia Gilchrist.

The family request that remembrances be made to Smith Street Baptist Church.

Betty was a member of the Seniors' class at MWC when I worked here. She often brought in crafts that she had made to share and coach others to make. Her girls were so devoted to caring for their mom. I know you all will miss her greatly. Just focus on your happy memories ad plan to see her again soon. God bless you all.
