Mrs. Helen West, age 91, of Vidalia died early Monday morning, January 28, 2019 at Community Hospice of Vidalia after an extended illness.

Mrs. West was a native of Baldwin County and had lived in Vidalia since 1958.  She was a homemaker and a golf enthusiast who was a member of the Ladies Golf Association at Vidalia Country Club.  She was a Girl Scout Leader and a member of Vidalia First Baptist Church where she served on many committees.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother,  great-grandmother, sister and friend.

Mrs. West is preceded in death by her father and mother, Evelyn and Fincher Mills and her sister Vashti Lyster.

Helen is survived by her husband of 73 years James D. West of Vidalia; her son, James Donald West (Linda) of Jefferson, NC; two daughters, Helen Nadine Fudge (Jerry) of Marietta, GA and Gloria Jennings of Statesboro; her sister, Catherine Veatch of Albemarle, NC; six grandchildren, Marnie, Jason, James, Jessica, Jeremy and Kayce; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Helen West will be held Thursday January 31, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Vidalia at 4:00 PM with Reverend Don Moye and Reverend Ricky Cummings officiating. Entombment will follow privately at Lakeview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends for visitation at the church from 2:00 PM until the hour of the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory be made to First Baptist Church of Vidalia at PO Box 631 Vidalia GA 30475 or Community Hospice at 904 Mt. Vernon Road Vidalia GA 30474.

James and family, my deepest condolences at the loss of your sweet Helen. She was a remarkable woman and such a devoted wife and Mother/Grandmother. I hold many pleasant memories of times Red & I shared with the two of you. Time and circumstances have led us on different paths for the last several years, but the joy of knowing you and Helen hasn't diminished one bit. My prayers and thoughts will be with you in the coming days.

What beautiful memories I have of growing up with Gloria and spending so much time at the West's home. It was so full of love and I remember so much laughter. I feel so blessed to have had that time together with all of you. Take care and may God bless and comfort you. Love to all.
