Mrs. Irmgard Hedwig Koch Rockett, age 95, of The Landings of Douglas, died Saturday, January 19, 2019, of heart failure.

Mrs. Rockett was a resident of Vidalia until 2015 when she moved to Douglas to be near her son and daughter-in-law. She was born in Renault, Illinois, January 23, 1923, to the late Rudolf Waldemar Koch, a Lutheran Minister and Paula Margarete Helena Maria Hempfing of Allendorf, Germany, and Fort Wayne, Indiana.

She worked many years as a book-keeper for Coite Sumner and was a homemaker. She participated in both civic and community organizations. A favorite through the years were the Koch reunions she attended with her son and grandchildren. Irmie, as she was affectionately called, graduated from Concordia High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1941, and from Fort Wayne Business College. She was of the Lutheran and Presbyterian Faith and attended Vidalia Presbyterian Church, where her husband served as an Elder. She also attended the Lutheran Church of Statesboro, and was a member of the Saints Sunday School Class that met each week at The Landings. Her love of reading, painting, playing board games, and her youthful spirit fostered her enjoyment of her family and friends for many years.

Mrs. Rockett is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Milton Richard Rockett of Vidalia; her son, Stanley Richard Rockett of Douglas; her sister-in-law, Vera Rockett Bell (Mark) of Milledgeville; six brothers to include Wendell Rockett, and her sister.

Mrs. Rockett is survived by her daughter-in-law, Susan Browning Rockett; two grandchildren, Christina Rockett Butler (John Mark) of Dublin, and Timothy Richard Rockett of Douglas; five great-grandchildren, John Mark Butler Jr, Benjamin Stanley Butler, Emily Susan Butler, Grayson Richard Rockett, and Clayton Michael Rockett; the families of her six brothers and sister; and many wonderful friends from Vidalia and Douglas who called and visited her often.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Irmgard Hedwig Koch Rockett will be held Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Stewart-Rosier Funeral Service Vidalia Chapel at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation at the funeral home Thursday morning from 10:00 AM until the hour of service.
