Mr. George Streetman Farmer, age 84, of Vidalia died Thursday morning September 6, 2018, at his home after a sudden illness.

George was born on July 27, 1934 in Sandersville Georgia, and was a graduate of Wrens High School. He joined the United States Marine Corps, serving for three years during the Korean War before being Honorably discharged. He was also a graduate of the University of Georgia. George was the assistant manager of Southern Glassine Co. in Augusta Georgia and was Personnel Manager of J.P. Stevens Textile Co. in Louisville, Georgia. He loved people and found his niche in sales. He worked in the paper and textile manufacturing equipment industry and eventually, he founded a company and co-founded another in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

George and his family lived in Chattanooga for thirty years until his retirement in 2004. He and his wife, Emily, then moved to Montgomery County, Georgia and resided there until his death. He was active in the Southern Baptist denomination and served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher in several churches. George was a member of Vidalia First Baptist Church. He enjoyed sports and was an all-state football player in high school. He also played on the freshman football team at the University of Georgia and was an avid golfer all of his life.

George was preceded in death by his two grandsons, Brandon and Christopher Farmer; his parents, John W. and Annie P. Farmer; his sister, Ruth F. Bowers; his brother, John W. Farmer Jr.; and his nephew, Mark B. Farmer.

George is survived by his wife of 56 years, Emily Hamilton Farmer; his son, Geoffrey C. Farmer (Laura); his daughter, Rosanne Farmer; his niece, Tori B. Rowland (Greg); and his nephews, Howard M. Bowers, John W. Farmer III (Sharon), and Carey P. Farmer.

Funeral Services for Mr. George Streetman Farmer will be held Monday September 10, 2018 at Stewart-Rosier Funeral Service Vidalia Chapel at 4:00 PM with Reverend Don Moye officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pisgah Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation at the funeral home Sunday September 9, 2018 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
