Mr. James “Leon” Pope, age 87, of Glenwood died Saturday afternoon July 29, 2017 at Fairview Park Hospital of Dublin after a brief illness. Leon was a native and lifelong resident of Glenwood, and was a retired logger. He was a member of Glenwood Church of God.

He is preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Pope in 2007.

Leon is survived by his wife, Eloise Pope, of Glenwood; one daughter, Elna (Clifton) Butler of Glenwood; one daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Pope Saxon of Glenwood; three grandsons, Craig (Melondy) Butler of Glenwood; William (Starlit) Pope of Glenwood; and Brent (Sabrina) Pope of Alston; eleven great grandchildren, Brandon (Heather) Pope, Hannah Pope, Taylor Butler, Ty Butler, Noah Pope, Hali Pope, Holly Pope, Trent Butler, Nick Pope, Bradley Pope, and Brent Pope Jr; and one great-great grandson, Jaxson Pope.

Funeral services for Mr. James “Leon” Pope will be held Tuesday August 1, 2017 at 4:00 PM at Stewart-Rosier Funeral Service Glenwood Chapel with Reverend Steve Hardeman and Reverend Ronny Saxon officiating. Interment will follow at the Edge Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Stewart-Rosier Funeral Service Glenwood Chapel Monday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

I will always be thankful to have know Brother Leon!! He was always a wonderful example of what a Christian should be like.. Always showing love, compassion to everyone..He would help others in need.I always got a blessing seeing him worship in church.,Such a humble servant for God!! Although we will miss him dearly I know he is enjoying and rejoicing in heaven with a new body with no more pain!!Heaven has gained another amazing angel!! I believe if he could speak to us one more time he would say it's worth it Heaven is Real and there is unspeakable joy Praise God!!
