Era Spell James passed away peacefully at Elmcroft Assisted Living in Roswell, Georgia on August 8th.  She was born on September 11, 1924, in the Toombs Central Community and would have been 92 on her birthday.  Her parents were Charles Jay Spell and Gussie Harrison Spell.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Hill James, and her grandson Justin Vaughn James.  She is survived by her daughter, Jan Morgan, and her husband Richard, and her son, Joel, and his wife Kathy.  She also was the greatest grandmother to her five surviving grandchildren, Amanda, Jordan, Jason, Leah and Lindsay.  The delight of her world was her two great grandchildren, Jackson and Lily Grace.  She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.  A vital part of her life was her longest and dearest friend, Christine Dewitt.

Era was, from an early child, a member of the Springhill Christian Church in the Toombs Central Community.  When she and Hill moved to Lyons in 1957, the family became members of The First Baptist Church.  The love and fellowship with other believers there, was such a blessing in her life.  She always knew, and felt, the love of her Savior.

Era was a graduate of Lyons High School. She was also a big fan of the Georgia Bulldogs, and attended several games with her family.  When she was home, she never missed a televised game.
Era thought that Lyons was the greatest place on earth to live.  She and Hill operated J and J Cleaners downtown for many years.  She enjoyed seeing those who came each day and always had time for a visit.

One of Era’s greatest gifts and pleasures, were the many pecan pies she made to share with those who had a need, or just needed some southern comfort.  She never met a stranger and she never missed a chance to put a hook in the water.

She loved her family and community.  She was blessed with many caring friends and neighbors.

Funeral Services for Era Spell James will be held Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at 1:30 PM at First Baptist Church of Lyons with Reverend Dannie Williams officiating.  Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday at the Church from 12:00 noon until the hour of the service.

Stewart-Rosier Funeral Service Lyons Chapel is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Jan, Joel and families, I am so sorry for your loss, but I know that you all know how lucky you are to have had her this long. We lost mom in 1996 and believe me that left a huge void in our family. She was a great woman to know, our families have known each for years. Mom and Dad always considered "Hill and Era", as great family friends. I even bought one of her cars and loved it for ever, her big brown Oldsmobile.. I have fond memories of her and her lady friends. Please find peace in knowing that she is at peace. Remember you will always, always have your memories. God Bless all of you.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Ms Era. My late Mother-in-law, Glenda Inman was also a dear friend, if I am not mistaken. I didn't know her well, but I DO know her friends spoke well of her. Praying for peace and comfort for her family and friends.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Ms. Era. I really grew to know her and love her from the office I worked at for over 20 years. I was always glad to see her and talk with her when she came. She always had a loving spirit. She had a good sense of humor and I was able to keep up with her family through some of their trials when I saw her. She will be missed and I hope that God will be with each of you through the days ahead. Know that she is in a better place and there was been a "glad reunion" day for her.

I am so sad to hear that my dear friend is gone. I was always delighted to see her anywhere and get one of her big hugs and kisses. She was so interesting to talk with and enjoyed "visiting" at any time. Hill and Era were special to the Rustin family. Jan & Joel, you have lost a jewel. May your happy memories be a great comfort to you. God bless you. I love you all.

Jan, I am so sorry to hear of the death of your mama...I just now found out about it and unfortunately cannot attend the funeral due to my job. I work at another funeral home and we have a funeral in progress now and one this afternoon as well. I thought a lot of your mama, and have several school pictures of her as she went to school with my mama. You may have some of the same...if not let me know and I will be happy to share them with you.

Again, my condolences to you and your family and I will be praying for God's sweet peace for you all...I know what it's like to lose a mother...
Sandra
