Mr. Benny J. Smith, age 70, of Glenwood died Tuesday evening, May 3, 2016 at Macon Medical Center after a brief illness. Mr. Smith was a native and lifelong resident of Wheeler County. He was a retired restaurant owner and operator and a member of Sardis Baptist Church.
Mr. Smith is preceded in death by his parents, R. J. and Lessie Smith, and three brothers, Jimmy, Joe, and David Smith.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Janice Smith; two sons, Richy Smith and wife Tammy of Conyers, and Rodney Smith and wife Angie of Alamo; two sisters, Pauline Yawn of Hazlehurst, and Pearl Cook of Lumber City; six grandchildren, Leslie Smith, Ashley Upshaw, Quinton Upshaw, Caleb Smith, Hillary Smith, and Keaton Smith; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Benny J. Smith will be held Friday morning, May 6, 2016, at 11:00 am at Sardis Baptist Church with Reverend Kevin Hammond and Reverend Wayne Bennett officiating. Interment will follow at Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 10:00 am Friday morning. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Stewart-Rosier Funeral Service Glenwood Chapel.
