Mr. H.C Powell, age 78 of 196 Old Glenwood Road, Glenwood died Tuesday, September 11, 2012 following an extended illness. A native of Montgomery County, Mr. Powell had lived most of his life in Jacksonville, FL, returning to the Wheeler County area six years ago. H.C. worked in construction, specializing in hanging drywall and was Baptist by faith.
Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his parents: Doel Edward and Mamie Lou Powell, five brothers: Woodrow, Owen, Clayton, Lowell and Ray Powell, one sister: Eva Mae Jones, his wife: Annie Ruth Powell, one son: Billy Gary Powell, a daughter: Nancy Powell Elton and a son-in-law: Howard Griffin.
Mr. H.C. Powell is survived by: three daughters and two sons-in-law: Janet and Kenny Bryant of Lyons, Sharon Griffin of Glenwood, Linda and Steve Gantjos of Jacksonville, FL, one son and daughter-in-law: James Edward and Tinnie Powell of Oklahoma, three sisters: Lois and Nellie Craft of Ailey and Lucille Gautheaux of New Orleans, Louisiana, 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. H.C. Powell will be held Friday, September 14, 2012 at 3:00 from the Ronnie L. Stewart Funeral Service, Glenwood Chapel with Reverend Joe Boyette officiating. Interment will follow in the Stuckey Baptist Church Cemetery near Glenwood. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 1 until 3 pm.
