Mr. Norris Herndon, age 82, of Lyons died early Monday morning, January 29, 2018 at Community Hospice of Vidalia after a brief illness.
Mr. Herndon was a native and lifelong resident of Lyons. He retired from telecommunications with over thirty years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Navy where he served in the Korean War in the China Sea Strait on the Destroyer Alfred A. Cunningham DD752 and the USS SATYR ARL- 23.  Mr. Herndon was a Mason and was a member of  Milliken’s  Creek Lodge 302 and Lyons Lodge  49. He was an avid sports fan. He attended Lyons Freewill Baptist Church.

Mr. Herndon is preceded in death by his parents; Guy and Zelma Herndon, and his brother, L.G. Herndon.

Norris is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jean Herndon of Lyons; five sons,  Dean Herndon Jr. of Lyons,  William ( Mary) Herndon of Lyons, Glenn (Angela) Herndon of Ohoopee, Carl (Gail) Higgs of Gray, and Kenny Jack Higgs of Ohoopee; his uncle, Percy Herndon of Cedar Crossing; and 15 grandchildren, Enis, Carla, Jessica, Jeremiah, Joshua, Trent, Robert, Robin, Wendy, Chester, Allison, Will, Tiffanie, Jay and Niki. Numerous great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Norris Herndon will be held Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at  Stewart - Rosier Funeral Service Lyons Chapel with Reverend Rick Wilson, and Reverend  Keith Kirkland officiating. Interment will follow at Ohoopee Cemetery with Masonic Rights. The family will receive friends for visitation Tuesday evening at Stewart-Rosier Funeral Service Lyons Chapel from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

Flowers will be accepted, or contributions can be made to Community Hospice or The Masonic Lodge Children’s Hospital.

Stewart-Rosier Funeral Service Lyons Chapel is in charge of funeral arrangements in Lyons.
