Mrs. Katy Jean Herndon, age 81, of Lyons, died Sunday morning, July 26, 2020 at Community Hospice of Vidalia after an extended illness. Mrs. Herndon was a native and lifelong resident of Lyons. She was a homemaker and attended Freewill Baptist Church of Lyons.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Festus and Ofa Higgs; her husband, Norris Herndon; and several brothers and sisters.

She is survived by five sons, Carl Higgs (Gail) of Macon, Kenny Jack Higgs of Ohoopee, Norris Dean Herndon Jr. of Lyons, William L. Herndon (Mary) of Lyons, and Glenn Herndon (Angela) of Ohoopee; one brother, Butch Higgs of Lyons; and four sisters, Meldra Collins of Ohoopee, Margie Patrick of Lyons, Dorothy Cobb of Lyons, and Joyce Allen of Alabama. Several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Katy Jean Herndon will be held Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Ronnie L. Stewart Funeral Service Vidalia Chapel with Reverend Nathan Pittman officiating. Interment will follow at Ohoopee Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation at the funeral home on Monday, July 27, 2020, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
