Mary Christine Mcquitty Evans, age 90, passed away on Monday, March 27, 2017 at The Community Hospice House of Vidalia. She was surrounded by her children, grandchildren, daughter-in-law, and beloved family members.

She was born in Vidalia, Georgia, the daughter of the late Ralph and Rena Sharpe, and resided here all of her life. She worked for Piggly Wiggly Southern for 37 years, and upon her retirement in 1991, was a Director of Store Accounts. After retirement, she met the ‘Love of her Life’, Gene Evans. They married in 1992 and enjoyed years of a whirlwind life of golfing, traveling, and big gatherings of family and friends! She loved these gatherings, and was an excellent cook and hostess!

She was a lifelong member of Vidalia’s First United Methodist Church and the Mae Reagan and Era Alexander Sunday School Classes. She loved her church and enjoyed volunteering on the Bulletin Committee.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Evans; two sisters, Juanita Stephens and Louise Holmes; two brothers, “Buddy” and Waldo Sharpe.

She is survived by her daughter, Rhonda K. McQuitty of Marietta, Georgia; her son, Kyle (Wanda) McQuitty of Valdosta, Georgia; two granddaughters, Kasey and Samantha McQuitty; her sister-in-law, Mrs. Vernie Sharpe of Vidalia; and her step-daughter, Mary (Mike) Redmond of Lynwood, Washington. Several nieces, nephews, and a caregiver Debbie Middleton also survive.

The family will receive friends at Stewart-Rosier Funeral Service Vidalia Chapel from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 30th with a graveside service immediately following at Lakeview Memorial Gardens at 11:30 AM with Reverend Lee Gaston officiating.
