Paul Wendell Jackson lived an amazing life from March 28, 1932 until July 23, 2015, when he passed away peacefully knowing he was loved immensely. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the local VFW, and the Moose Lodge.

Born in Riley, Indiana, he was a ten year veteran of the United States Army and proudly served in the First Calvary in the Korean War, where he humbly was awarded a Purple Heart as well as three bronze stars, the Commendation Ribbon, the UN Service Medal, and Combat Infantryman Badge. He was a retired semi-truck driver and upon retirement moved to Vidalia, Georgia, in 1995 to be closer to family and to care for his ailing wife, Norma. He came to love Vidalia and made many friends here.

After the passing of his wife, Norma, Paul met and fell in love with Elene Rowell and they married soon thereafter. “Miss Ellie,” as she was fondly called by Paul’s children and grandchildren, had a severe stroke in June of 2009. Paul brought her home and lovingly cared for her for five years.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents Ellsworth and Dorothy Jackson, and both of his wives, Norma Jean (Hall) Jackson of Niles, Michigan, and Elene (Rowell) Jackson of Graham, Georgia.

Paul leaves behind his loving sister, Nancy VanBuskirk of Brownsburg, Indiana; four children, Dean Vollman and wife Marigrace of Missoula, Montana, Juanita Fain of Charleston, South Carolina, Julie Hopkins and husband Eric of Vidalia, Georgia, and Mark Jackson of Denver, Colorado. Paul was blessed with eight grandchildren, David, Becky, Michael, Melissa, Amanda, Kristen, Jonathan, and Elizabeth; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Visitation and Rosary Vigil will be held at Stewart-Rosier Funeral Service of Vidalia Monday, July 27th, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Vidalia Tuesday, July 28th, at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked donations be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Stewart-Rosier Funeral Service of Vidalia is in charge of funeral arrangements.
