Robert Thompson, age 69, of the Ohoopee Community passed away Saturday night, October 26, 2013 at Meadows Regional Medical Center of Vidalia after an extended illness.

Mr. Thompson was a native and lifelong resident of the Ohoopee Community.  He was a retired Correctional Officer from Georgia State Prison, a Vietnam Veteran of the United States Marines and he was Baptist by faith.

Mr. Thompson is preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Lewis in 2013 and his parents, RD and Ila Mae Thompson.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carolyn Thompson of Lyons; three sons, Robert Daniel Thompson of Lyons, Thomas James Thompson of Lyons and Wesley Eugene Thompson of Columbus, Ga.; three daughters, Janet Chambers of Visalia, CA; Martha Jean Garza of Lyons and Saraha Anne Bryant of Lyons; one sister, Frances Smith of Covington.  Sixteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral Services for Robert Thompson will be held Thursday, October 31, 2013 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Jones Stewart Funeral Home of Lyons with Reverend Mike Smith officiating.  Interment will follow in the Ohoopee Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 PM.
