Mr. George B. Chapman Sr., age 78, of Vidalia died Monday evening September 30, 2013 at Community Hospice of Vidalia after a brief illness.

Mr. Chapman was a native of Tattnall County and resided in Vidalia since 1960.  He graduated from the University of Georgia as a pharmacist and began his career with Lamars Drugs, later Plaza and Chapman Pharmacy.  He was a past president of the Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce; he was the 1989 Vidalia Citizen of the Year.  He was also a member of and served as a deacon of Vidalia First Baptist Church.  Mr. Chapman served on the USS Macon in the United States Navy. He acted as an advocate and was instrumental in bringing Southeastern Technical College to our county.  

Mr. Chapman is preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Sikes Chapman.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah Chapman of Vidalia; two sons, Wes Chapman of Vidalia and Biram Chapman, wife Karen Thompson Chapman of Vidalia; two grandchildren, KayLeigh Chapman of Atlanta,  Carter Chapman, wife Jennifer and their daughter Virginia  of Atlanta. Two brothers, Ben Chapman and Ralph Chapman, both of Richmond Hill, also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Chapman will be held Thursday October 3, 2013 at 11:00 am from the historic chapel of Vidalia First Baptist Church with Reverend Bucky Kennedy and Reverend Don Moye officiating.  Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 6 PM on Wednesday.  

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vidalia First Baptist Church building fund or Meadows Regional Cancer Center.
