Dycus, Marion Franklin “Doc” age 72 of Lyons, Georgia crossed over to meet his Heavenly Father Friday, November 23, 2012. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Johnson; children, Sheila Dycus, Shannon Foxen, Shawn Bilbrey and Robert Dycus; stepchildren, Jamie Scott, Donna Stevenson, Dean Birkheimer and Glen Birkheimer; grandchildren, Vinnie Johnson and Samantha Bilbrey; siblings, Don Dycus, Jerry Dycus and Dana Forbes.

He also leaves behind many beloved friends, co-writers and fishing partners.  Dycus was born in Kentucky and after joining the US Air Force he lived in many areas before following his heart to Nashville, TN.  Dycus was a talented songwriter and honored to be a part of country music.  He had songs cut by George Strait, George Jones, Dolly Parton, Mark Chessnutt, among many others, and was SESAC’s 1995 Songwriter of the Year. 

He loved his many co-writers, especially the young, new talent in town that he would take under his wing.  His other passion was fishing and teaching others how to fish.  Dycus was a gifted storyteller and loved making people laugh.  His music and stories will keep his legacy alive forever in the hearts of the many people that loved him and were blessed to call him “friend”.  In lieu of services, Dycus’ final wish was to have his ashes scattered off the Coast of Tybee Island, GA.  To honor him, tell a “Dycus story” to someone today.   Donation, on his behalf, may be made to Vanderbilt Children’s Cancer Center in Nashville, TN.
