Glenwood

Hazel W. Brooks, age 89, passed away Friday, November 9, 2012, at Community Hospice in Vidalia after a brief illness.

Mrs. Brooks was born on October 4, 1923 in Spann, Johnson County, Georgia.  Mrs. Brooks worked many years in factory, clerical, owned businesses, also as an Office Manager for several years with Peacock Chevrolet in Dublin.  She retired as Vice President of Montgomery County Bank in 1985.  She enjoyed traveling, researching genealogy and local history.  She volunteered time to the Wheeler County Chamber of Commerce.  As a member of Bethel Baptist Church, she devoted time and talent to the church history and prepared the church bulletins for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents Callie Sumner and Luther J. Walker, husband Ralph P. Brooks, son Gregory J. Brooks, grandson William Hooker and seven brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by three sons and four daughters in law, Rodney R. & Dianne B. Brooks of Glenwood, Ronald P. & Bobbie C. Brooks, Anthony J. & Carol W.  Brooks and Mary B. Brooks, all of Vidalia; one grandson and six granddaughters; nine great grandchildren; one brother, Paul E. Walker of Dublin; three sisters, Dorothy W. Clark and Ellen Burch Phagen & husband Dewitt of the Cedar Grove Community, Lorraine W. Jones and husband Ernest of Danville; two sisters in law, Jean R. Brooks of Glenwood and Ouida Walker of Grove Town, Georgia.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Hazel W. Brooks will be held on Monday, November 12, 2012 at 3:00 PM from the Bethel Baptist Church near Glenwood with Reverend Don Moye and Reverend Bob Corley officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 PM until time of the service. 

Pallbearers will be Page Brooks, Larry Curl, Mark Olsen, Brad Thompson, Terry Collins, Daniel Spivey and Wayne Nelson.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Vidalia, Bethel Baptist Church or a charity of your choosing.
